I struggled with the career choice I would pursue at a young age. I was fortunate to attend a school district with resources that encouraged higher education, which added a great deal of pressure to elect my desired profession before entering 9th grade. I knew I excelled in math, science, and elective art courses, but I didn’t know how to narrow the possibilities. My mom knew of an old friend that was an architect and asked if he would allow me to shadow him to give insight of an architect’s work day. That shadow opportunity and a part time summer internship in high school fed my search for collegiate architecture programs. I’m fortunate to have been exposed early to architecture. It was my love of math and science that made me crave a deeper understanding of how architectural form could develop from a structural perspective.
